From Dachau With Love

Dachau – a name (in)famous like few others. Yet this gemütlich little Bavarian town yearns to be just another place name on the map of Germany. Alas – there is no magic solution for disconnecting Dachau from its grim past. Though this does not stop the good citizens of Dachau from trying: they are fighting a hopeless – and typically German – battle to keep the ghosts of the past at bay. But history sticks like chewing gum to a shoe.
Bernd Fischer, a filmmaker who grew up in Dachau, but moved away after school, introduces us to his home town. The actors are tourists and locals, camp survivors and their heirs, the Bavarian riot police, who train next door in the former SS-barracks and a very talkative nun, who has spent the last 35 years in a convent of silence on the KZ-grounds.
A surprising tragicomic portrait of a unique place.
