Drawing A Line. / Striche ziehen.

In 1986, five former GDR citizens with roots in the GDR punk and underground scene planned an art project: they wanted to paint a white line all around the wall from the West Berlin side. The event ended in an arrest by GDR border guards, with grave consequences. Only years later the group finds out that one of them was a STASI collaborator. The motives remain unclear; the perfidious consequences reach into the present.
The film recounts the tension between subculture and dictatorship. Former East Germany, punk music, the wall, betrayal amongst friends and worse: amongst brothers, jail, exit for the West: a film confronting these things on the offensive – and seeing its view of them as a balancing act.
